Amid ongoing debates over border security and government spending, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has called for a change in House leadership, pointing to these issues as catalysts for his discontent.
What happened: On Wednesday, Greene expressed her dissatisfaction with the current Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson (R-La), citing concerns about border security and spending on X, formerly Twitter.
“We need a Speaker of the House who will fight to protect America’s border at all costs! Not one to top a trillion-dollar Democratic wish list that continues border invasions, funds armed government, and breaks the rules of our conference. I’m done with this,” she wrote.

Because matter: Greene’s recent statements are part of a larger narrative of internal party strife. He called the Republican majority a “complete failure” when it comes to spending management and border strategy. He criticized the majority for not using their power effectively to address the border situation, calling for a government shutdown instead of approving the proposed funding.
Formerly, former GOP member Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) questioned Johnson’s political experience in handling aid to Ukraine, suggesting that Johnson lacked the acumen needed to broker a deal. This skepticism was further compounded when Johnson himself described an “intense” meeting at the White House, in which he felt isolated while discussing funding for Ukraine and the urgency of preventing a government shutdown.
