Country music star Toby Keith died Monday at age 62 after a long battle with stomach cancer. Now, former NFL quarterback Brett Favre has spoken out to reveal new details about Keith’s final days.

Favre talks about Keith’s last days

Favre, 54, told TMZ Sports that he was close friends with Keith and last spoke with him a few days before his death.

“I think at the end he was just tired,” Favre said. “He told me during our conversation, he said, ‘Brett… whatever happens, I’m fine with it.'”

Favre went on to say that he hoped Keith had “turned the corner” regarding his health, despite his sickly appearance at his December shows in Las Vegas, Nevada. During their final conversation, however, it was clear that Keith was not doing well.

“He said, ‘I stopped chemo and it probably did more damage to me than cancer,’” Favre continued. “And he said, ‘I just hope I didn’t give up too late, but… I’m grateful that I got the chance to play some shows. I finished them.'”
