A cyber attack disrupts German battery production lines

VARTA AG, a German battery manufacturer, announced that it had suffered a cyber attack on its IT systems on the night of February 12.

The attack hit five production plants and their administration, according to the company’s press release. For this reason, the company’s IT systems and assembly lines were temporarily shut down and disconnected from the Internet.

The scope and impact of the attack are still being determined, so it’s unclear what type of attack the battery company is dealing with, be it ransomware or otherwise.

VARTA AG also noted that it has taken precautionary measures against further attacks and has established a task force to help resume operations when possible together with cybersecurity experts.

VARTA AG did not provide further information on when it will resume production or when its IT system will be connected to the Internet again.
