A Southwest Airlines plane returned to Denver Sunday morning after its engine cover fell off and struck the wing flap during takeoff, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The Boeing 737 landed safely and Houston-bound passengers were put on another plane, Southwest Airlines said in a statement.
“We apologize for the inconvenience of their delay, but we place our highest priority on ensuring the safety of our customers and employees. Our maintenance teams are examining the aircraft,” the statement read.
It is the second incident this week for the airline, with a flight from Texas canceled on Thursday after an engine fire was reported. The Lubbock, Texas, Fire Department confirmed online a fire in one of two engines that needed to be shut down.
The FAA is investigating both crashes.
