OJ Simpson’s acquittal was a necessary response to the racist system

Marc Lamont Hill, a professor of urban education at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City, responded to OJ Simpson’s death by saying that his acquittal in the double murder of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman was a “necessary” outcome.

Simpson, 76, died Thursday at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada, after battling prostate cancer.

The former Buffalo Bills running back is best known for being acquitted for the aforementioned murders. Hill, however, had an interesting vision after his death.

“OJ Simpson was a violent liar who abandoned his community long before he killed two people in cold blood. His acquittal of murder was the correct and necessary result of a racist criminal legal system,” she wrote on

“But he’s still a monster, not a martyr.”

Marc Lamont Hill suggests that OJ Simpson’s acquittal was fair because he was black

Former CNN and Fox News contributor Marc Lamont Hill was called out for his opinion on the OJ Simpson case.

It’s hard not to conclude this interpretation of these remarks: OJ wasn’t really black, but he deserved to get away with murder because he was black.

“Saying he left the black community and admitting he is a murderer, but believing he still deserves black criminal immunity is insane,” one X follower responded.

Hill, however, denies that this was his opinion, despite clearly stating that the Simpson case was a “correct and necessary result of a racist criminal legal system”.

“I never said that,” he replied to the critic. “The witness was caught lying. This raises legal questions. That’s why the verdict was right. Regardless of race, the system must be fair.”

But that’s not what he initially said.

Detective Mark Fuhrman was caught lying on the witness stand about using a racial slur. Furthermore, he invoked the 5th Amendment every time the defense asked him to introduce evidence.

But many, many people assume that the jury acquitted Simpson because of his race, a response to the police beating of Rodney King years earlier.

However, just as Hill admits, hard evidence was abundant in proving Simpson’s guilt in the case.

“He killed two people in cold blood.”

And, in fact, in a subsequent civil trial in 1997, Simpson was held responsible for the wrongful deaths of Nicole Brown and Goldman. He was ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages to the victims’ families.

Fired from CNN

Marc Lamont Hill made headlines earlier this year when he called for Harvard’s president to be chosen solely based on race and gender.

“The next president of Harvard University MUST be a black woman,” Hill insisted in an X post.

He was responding to the news that Claudine Gay, the former president of Harvard, had been forced to resign from her post. Gay’s fate followed controversy over alleged plagiarism and accusations of fostering anti-Semitism on campus.

CNN famously fired Hill after he called for the destruction of Israel and incited violence against Jews before a United Nations panel in 2018.

Hill defended the Palestinian resistance’s use of terrorism and violence in 2018.

“We must recognize the right of an occupied people to defend themselves,” he said.

“We must prioritize peace, but we must not romanticize or fetishize it,” he added, concluding that “justice requires… a free Palestine from river to sea.”

The phrase “from the river to the sea” has been used by the terrorist organization Hamas. It is widely regarded as a mantra calling for the destruction of Israel.
