The Republican Party has truly lost its values since its heyday as the party of national security and American troops. Currently, House Republicans refuse to even allow a vote on the Senate national security bill that effectively helps American troops.
This is how on the second anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Biden administration’s national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, turned to Fox News to tell his viewers that, in reality, that National Security Supplement to which they are so against it help American troops protect Americans from our adversaries.

“We have found over the last couple of years, since the war in Ukraine began, since Biden took office, that the cupboards were not as full as they should have been based on underinvestment over the last 20 years. And we have been working since day one of this administration to build the defense industrial base, to increase production of critical munitions systems,” Sullivan said, rather politely avoiding pointing the finger at “underinvestment” over the last 20 years, which crosses party lines. administrations, but more recently it would have been the responsibility of Donald Trump.
“And three years into the Biden administration, we are producing much more than the day we took office. Second, this bipartisan bill just passed by the Senate is the best answer to your question and contains substantial resources to improve the manufacturing capacity of our defense industrial base so we can build munitions not only for Ukraine, but also to ensure that the U.S. State military has the tools necessary to deter any adversary anywhere in the world at any time.”
This is also not a partisan idea.
The lead negotiator of the bipartisan legislation in the Senate, Republican Senator Susan Collins, said of the bill sent to the US House: “The national security bill passed by the Senate is of profound importance to the security of America. It would provide updated and effective ammunition and equipment to our troops, allow our Navy to continue its vital operations in the Red Sea and rebuild our weak defense industrial base.”
“…Moreover, it would help deter a threatening China whose Navy now exceeds the size of ours. Each of these investments is in our national interest.”
Conservatives have been inundated with Russian propaganda about the bipartisan Senate bill. This propaganda sought in every possible way to undermine US support for Ukraine, including by suggesting that we should spend our money at home.
But obviously this bill puts money at home. Not only does it help our troops protect the United States, but as Sullivan said on Fox, “If we don’t pass this bill, it will mean less money going to 40 of the 50 states in the United States that are currently at war.” the process of producing critical munitions. We need to get that money out.”
So why is President Johnson refusing to allow the bill to be put to a vote? Why would the U.S. House, under Republican leadership, risk national security and the safety of Americans to aid a hostile foreign country?
