Thick clouds of smoke filled the New York skyline after a skyscraper near One World Trade Center went up in flames Wednesday morning.

Fox 5 New York reported that FDNY officials responded to a fire atop a 72-story skyscraper on Greenwich Street.

Firefighters on scene shared that the fire stemmed from the skyscraper’s HVAC system on the roof of the 72-story building.

No injuries were reported from the fire and firefighters were able to contain the fire.

Heavy smoke in New York City caused a momentary panic among some New York residents who had flashbacks of the smoke coming over the horizon on September 11th.

According to the New York Post:

Thick plumes of smoke were spotted billowing from an under-construction skyscraper near One World Trade Center after a fire broke out on the building’s roof Wednesday morning.

No injuries were reported in the fire at 125 Greenwich St., a residential building under construction, to which firefighters responded about 9:20 a.m., the FDNY said.

Officials said the fire started in an HVAC system located on the roof of the 72-story building.

Construction worker Jerson Valencia confirmed to the Post that smoke was coming from the building’s air conditioning duct.

The skyscraper that caught fire was a luxury residential project that had been under construction for five years.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
