Biden lays out plan to protect ‘Deep State’ government workers if Trump wins election: report

Gage Skidmore/Creative Commons

The Biden administration has a plan to make it harder to fire federal employees. Particularly those seen as workers for the “deep state”.

Unelected federal bureaucrats that Donald Trump has promised to eliminate.

The Biden White House released a statement Thursday on the “final rule to protect nonpartisan public employees.”

Fox News reports: “Biden said his administration was announcing ‘protection for 2.2 million career public servants from political interference, to ensure they can carry out their responsibilities in the best interests of the American people.’

“Day after day, career public servants provide the expertise and continuity needed to make our democracy work,” the statement read. “They provide Americans with life-saving and life-changing services and put opportunity within reach for millions of people. That is why since I took office, I have worked to strengthen, empower and rebuild our workforce.”

The story continued:

The Office of Personnel Management, the government’s main human resources agency, on Thursday implemented new rules that prevent career public employees from being reclassified as political appointees, or other at-will workers, who are more easily fired by their work. According to the Associated Press, this decision comes in response to “Schedule F,” an executive order issued by Trump in 2020 that sought to allow the reclassification of tens of thousands of the 2.2 million federal employees and thus reduce their protections on workplace safety.

Biden canceled Schedule F once he took office, but if Trump were to reinstate it during a second administration, he could dramatically increase the roughly 4,000 federal employees who are considered political appointees and who typically change with each new president. It is unclear how many employees may have been affected by Schedule F.

Furthermore, voters did not elect these public servants

The chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, James Comer, criticized this move by Biden to protect the “deep state”.

“OPM’s final rule is yet another example of the Biden administration’s efforts to insulate the federal workforce from liability,” Comer said in a statement.

“The federal workforce exists to serve the American people, yet many Americans have a deep and growing distrust of the federal bureaucracy. The Biden administration’s rule will further undermine Americans’ trust in their government as it allows low-performing federal workers and those who attempt to thwart the policies of a duly elected president to remain entrenched in the federal bureaucracy. We need more accountability for the unelected federal bureaucracy, not less.”

Comer said with this policy: “The Biden administration believes it is more important to protect the federal bureaucracy, rather than take steps to increase the American people’s trust in it.”

“The House Oversight Committee will continue to conduct rigorous oversight of the federal workforce and will examine legislative solutions to make the unelected and unaccountable federal workforce more accountable to the American people,” it adds.

These federal workers were not elected by voters, yet many were antagonistic toward Donald Trump while he was in office.

A man who was actually elected.

Isn’t “democracy” about letting elected people do the job they were elected to do?

Or are they unelected, faceless employees working against the president?

In any case, Joe Biden obviously wants to make sure they can continue to do what they’ve always done. Especially if Donald Trump takes over from him in November.
